Chromecast is a good and cheap solution to help stream the digital content on the laptop or other devices to TV inserted with Chromecast in a wireless way (e.g. Wi-Fi). Normally, it will save much effort in transferring files. But today, our problem is - how to cast the DVD to TV using Chromecast?

Why is A Little Complex to Stream DVD to Chromecast
Up to now, Google has launched 5 models for Chromecast. They are:
1.Chromecast (1st generation): Released on July 24, 2013.
2.Chromecast (2nd generation): Released on September 29, 2015.
3.Chromecast Audio (Audio Only): Released on September 29, 2015.
4.Chromecast Ultra (4K Support): Released on November 6, 2016.
5.Chromecast (3rd generation): Released on October 10,2018.
Note: The sales of Chromecast 1, Chromecast 2 and Chromecast Audio had been discontinued.
The Chromecast audio only support streaming audio files, so we will not talk about it. Except Chromecast Audio, other models can cast the screen of computer, phone, etc. to TV or play Internet-streamed audio-visual content on TV via a mobile app or web app that support Chromecast.
So, to play DVD movie on TV using Chromecast, you have to make the DVD disc playable on your computer, smart phone, tablet or more. Moreover, it's not so easy to play physical DVD on computer and mobile phone due to the protecting limitations. We have to do other steps to successfully cast the DVD from Chromecast to TV.
How to Stream DVD to Chromecast from Phone/Computer
With some DVD player software, we can play DVD on computer and then mirror the screen to TV with Chromecast (Switch to Part 3. to know more). But this method can't apply to stream DVD to TV from smart phone, as there is not possible way to play physical DVD disc on smart phone.
The only way is to rip DVD to digital media file format. Then mirror the ripped DVD movie to your HDTV.

Step 1. Load DVD Disc

6.Choose your TV that connected with your Chromecast.
Tip: Now, Chromecast can't cast the phone screen to TV. You have to get help from third-party tool such as Localcast.

Mirror the Computer Screen on TV with Chromecast to Play DVD

1.On your computer, open Chrome.
2.At the top right, click the three dots icon > select "Cast".
3.At the top, next to 'Cast to', click the Down Arrow.
4.Click Cast desktop.

Although the current technology hasn't developed Chromecast's compatibility to DVD, you can still try to stream DVD to TV via Chromecast in an alternative way. It is worthy of a try if you would like to appreciate the DVD content on high definition TV.
